People today seem content leaving things behind for someone else to handle. In the not too distant past, when you couldn't find out everything about everything just by clicking a mouse and doing a simple google search, people were imbued with a sense of urgency. People had the sense that they had to do things right away, because if they didn't, who would do it then and how would it get done? We didn't take the chance of it not being finished. In today's world, there seems to be this inherent notion deeply rooted in the minds of men and women everywhere that things just work out through some combination of events that are entirely out of their control. And I admit, I was guilty of that for so long. But what if everyone thinks that way? History has not been kind to those types of civilizations...
So even with all of our scientific advancements, the improved and increased availability of modern education and the advent of computer systems which are capable of equalizing our varied mental deficiencies in an instant, we haven't learned very much at all. I have tried, in my own way, to live in a way more reminiscent of a time when men took nothing for granted. When I take on a job or project, I cannot afford to assume that someone else has thought of everything necessary to make that particular evolution as good as possible. I cannot take for granted that systems are in place that will render the desired effect or impact as efficiently and successfully as a brand new approach might.
When we allow the fire deep in our hearts and minds to burn out, we allow our personal and our collective responsibilities to become somebody else's problem. That is when things get missed. For instance, if we let ourselves believe that it doesn't matter whether or not we litter, we will soon be living in a filthy community. If we resign ourselves to the belief that our current level of education is sufficient, we will soon be a nation of inferior minds. If we resign ourselves to the belief that our actions do not weigh heavily upon our brothers and sisters, we will soon be living in a cold, hard world, totally devoid of compassion and empathy...
